Attached is the Greater Miami Valley EMS Council Just in Time Standing Order (JITSO) for Paramedics and Advanced EMTs for Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine. Scope of practice precludes use by EMTs or EMRs. We have made the Janssen JITSO follow the same format as the ones issued for Moderna and Pfizer as closely as possible. All will be available in the GMVEMSC app and on the Council website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EMS assisting with PODs or Mobile Vaccination Teams may now use Moderna, Pfizer, or Janssen vaccine. Be aware that health departments are now often using different brands in the same Point of Dispensing (POD). Be sure you use the correct JITSO and remember that second doses of Pfizer and Moderna MUST be the same brand as the first. Janssen is a \u201cone and done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Region 3 Regional Physicians Advisory Board (RPAB) approved use of EUA Fact Sheet materials for the JITSO. The JITSOs are checklists, derived from the EUA Fact Sheets for Providers. Dr. Marriott and Standing Orders Chairperson Lt. Russell have approved both JITSOs. There are two Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) Fact Sheets for each vaccine: one for providers, and one that vaccine recipients receive. Both EUA Fact Sheets for Janssen are also attached for your information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Please confirm approval of JITSO use with your Medical Director. At this time, we have been told you do not need to add COVID vaccines to your EMS Drug License. If that changes, we will let you know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most if not all LHDs will look to you for assistance at every Point of Dispensing (POD) for COVID vaccines. Make sure your personnel have completed the online training, reviewed the correct JITSO, and reviewed the EMS Standing Order for Anaphylaxis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
